RMF delivers healthcare projects for the NHS through the HFS2 framework, and is a partnership between Robertson Construction and FES.

Improved facilities for Glasgow

This project was part of a programme of developments within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde’s Modernising Mental Health Services review. A number of enabling projects had been identified at the Stobhill and Gartnavel Hospitals to achieve the NHS’ overall strategy. They aim to improve standards affecting safety, patient-centred care, and HEI and HAI compliance.

Minimising disruption in a live hospital campus

The programme consisted of refurbishment and new build activities within live environments on the Stobhill and Gartnavel Hospital sites. RMF Health worked in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to decant wards and keep programme activities in line with clinical and estates business continuity requirements. The main challenge was to keep the risk of disruption to a minimum impact on existing services.

Key facts

Stobhill Hospital

Ward 43 has been refurbished to provide a 20-bed admission ward for adult mental health. The completed works provide a clinical area that is compliant with modern standards and offers a pleasing and safe environment for staff and patients. This includes a secure external space.

Ward 44 was reconfigured to include laundry services, occupational health, medical records, patient affairs services and general administration.

Broadford Ward was modified to provide a 20-bed admission ward for mental health patients.

Gartnavel Hospital

At Gartnavel Hospital, we refurbished and extended two wards to provide adult acute mental health continuing care/rehabilitation facilities. Works are now complete and the facilities are in use.

The Clyde and Tate wards were almost identical single-storey buildings, each of which provided accommodation for 30 patients, comprising six single rooms with en-suite facilities, and four 6-bed dormitories sharing bathroom/shower facilities.

The refurbished wards were handed over, with the Clyde Ward now providing 18 single bedrooms with en-suite facilities and the Tate Ward providing 20 single bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Each ward is finished to a high standard, delivering a healing environment for patients and a positive setting for staff to work in.
