Founded in 1966 by Sir Bill Robertson, our business is now in its second generation of family leadership. Our plans for long-term growth are underpinned by our strategic vision of assuring a sustainable future, for our employees, customers, partners and the communities where we work.
Our structure makes us agile enough to react to changing markets, while our senior leadership take an active role in working in partnership with our customers.

From the beginning, Bill Robertson took a considered approach to his business; he was patient, responsible, always careful to understand the details, to put customers first, and to create the best possible outcomes.
Robertson built a trusted reputation for successful delivery that meant it could diversify, growing in a sustainable way. At the heart of every new venture was the insistence on getting the basics absolutely right. Common sense, attention to detail, outstanding quality, taking pride in our work, and doing a job that will stand the test of time.

Our history
1966
Bill Robertson forms the company as a joinery business in Elgin.
1969
First house built for sale.
1971
First multi-trade project: three shops built and sold in Elgin.
1975
50-home design and build development for Portsoy Town Council.
Company incorporated as a limited company.
1976
First development of 26 private homes for sale in Elgin.
1983
Acquisition of Elgin Precast.
1986
Elgin Timber Products begins trading.
1989
Acquisition of Doric Construction (Aberdeen).
1994
Robertson Homes established.
1995
First major healthcare project – Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin
1996
Robertson Group formed.
1998
Robertson Facilities Management formed.
1999
First major project in England – 2 schools and a library in Stockton.

2001
First major PFI healthcare project, New Craigs Hospital, Inverness.
2002
Robertson Capital Projects formed to invest in public sector projects.
2007
Welcomed our 1,000th employee.
Bill Robertson received CBE for services to the construction industry.
2009
Newcastle Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
2012
Engineering Services business formed.
2015
4,500th affordable homes built.
Robertson Partnership Homes formed.
2016
50th year of trading and 2,000th employee.
2018
Delivered multi-award winning £140m Macallan Distillery and Visitor Experience.
Carbon neutral status

2019
Delivered The Event Complex Aberdeen TECA (incorporating P&J Live), our largest project to date £333m.
Named Contractor of the Year by CN Awards.
Robertson Homes named Scottish Housebuilder of the Year.
2020
Elliot Robertson becomes CEO, taking the family business into its second generation.
In the 2023 New Year Honours, our Founder and Executive Chairman Bill Robertson received a knighthood for services to the construction industry and to charity in Scotland.
