McDonald Road Fire Station, a Robertson Construction site in Edinburgh, has been putting its harvested rainwater to good use after the recent warm weather

McDonald Road Fire Station, a Robertson Construction site in Edinburgh for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, has been putting its harvested rainwater to good use after concerns were raised by local residents about the condition of nearby trees. Residents took to social media to voice their concerns following the particularly warm weather we have been experiencing recently. The trees were desperately in need of water, Shaun Millar, Site Manager, saw their plea for help online and offered up a helping hand from the site team.

Using a forklift, the team maneuvered the 1,000 litre harvested water tank along the road and used buckets to water the trees.

A local resident said, "A huge thank you to your colleagues working on the Fire Station project on McDonald Road. They've been out watering the new street trees, following a request on social media. Their involvement has encouraged some local residents to get involved and water them as well. Without this support the trees would have probably died. Yvonne McCathie seems to be the main person organising the watering, so particular thanks to her. Really appreciated."

The team plan to continue using the harvested rainwater to assist the local community with the new plantings.

David Cairns, Managing Director Robertson Construction Central East, said: "The communities where we work are incredibly important to us and we endeavor to assist them whenever we can. We would anticipate the Scottish weather will enable us to replenish the harvested rainwater so that we will be able to further assist should we experience warmer weather later in the summer. By being able to utilise the harvested rainwater the team have demonstrated their care and commitment for both the environment and community".

Robertson is operating on site under strict safe operating procedures in regard to COVID-19.
