Summary
Providing a new sustainable teaching block
The project involves the design and construction of a state-of-the-art teaching block comprising 18 classrooms, each with a capacity to accommodate 30 pupils. This new facility is strategically positioned adjacent to a woodland area and is situated on an existing embankment that separates two sports pitches.
In addition to the general classrooms, the lower ground level will feature separate male and female sports changing rooms, each designed to serve 60 pupils. These changing rooms will have direct access to the existing sports pitch, facilitating seamless transitions for physical education activities.
Architectural and sustainability features
The design incorporates large window apertures to maximize natural daylight, enhancing the learning environment and creating a visually appealing facade. Each window is equipped with a louvre to house the Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system, ensuring sustainable heating and ventilation throughout the building. Additionally, rooftop photovoltaic panels will be installed to generate renewable energy, reducing the building’s carbon footprint and operational costs.
Operational considerations
Throughout the construction phase, adjacent buildings within the school grounds will remain occupied and fully operational. Through careful planning, co-ordination and communication, we will minimise disruption to all ongoing educational activities.
Route to market
The project was procured through the YORbuild3 Medium Works framework.
