Minister visits Tyneview Retail Park as Scheme Hits Milestone

Department for Work and Pensions Minister and MP for Hexham Guy Opperman has visited Tyneview Retail Park, a new retail and roadside development to the North of Prudhoe town centre

Prudhoe Estates, a joint partnership between Advance Northumberland and Northumberland Estates were pleased to showcase the scheme to Mr Opperman now it is complete and ready for internal fit out.

With national brands already confirmed to take up space, the mixed-use retail park in one of Northumberland's largest towns looks set to deliver on its aims to increase local spend. 'Tyneview Retail Park' will consist of a number of national retailers, including supermarket chain Aldi's 18,500sqft anchor food store, a B&M 22,000sqft Homestore including a 7.500sqft garden centre, and restaurant Cafe Ginevra, all joining the scheme.

Tyneview Retail Park is a new retail development fronting the A695 Princess Way to the North of Prudhoe town centre and extending to 97,853sqft approximately with 435 car park spaces.

Prudhoe Estates started on site in last year, having made a £.12.9m investment in the location and the scheme. The full development will create 200 jobs, with the new retail outlets expected to open before the end of the year.

Construction of the retail park is being delivered by Robertson Group who have operated under stringent COVID-19 Safe Operating Procedures since March 2020 and were still able to deliver on time.

Guy Opperman MP said: "I welcome this new development as it brings jobs to the local community, as well as economic growth and more visitors to the town. Huge congratulations to everyone involved in completing this project on time - it looks great and I know will be a fantastic addition to Prudhoe."

Garry Hope, Regional Managing Director, Robertson, said: "Tyneview Retail Park is an excellent example of what can be achieved through teamwork. The collaboration with Prudhoe Estates from the start of the contract through to our completion of the retail units has been second to none and the support and partnership from our local supply chain has been exemplary.

This combination has resulted in the units being handed over on programme and to budget. As the fit-out progresses it won't be long until Tyneview becomes a bustling shopping destination, creating new local jobs and assisting local economic recovery."

Colin Barnes, Director of Northumberland Estates said: "Despite all of the challenges we have faced with ground conditions and lockdown, the development has remained on track to be completed this year. We have worked for ages to bring new shops to Prudhoe and its rewarding to see the buildings now being constructed, with the prospect of attracting more investment to the town in the future."

Cllr Richard Wearmouth, Chair of Advance Northumberland and cabinet member for economic development at Northumberland County Council said: "It is great to see our joint scheme with Northumberland Estates now complete and ready for the fit out, it will make a huge difference to the town of Prudhoe. Developments like this will be vital in propelling our economy out of the COVID-19 crisis and we continue to plan and work on projects across our county, to ensure Northumberland's economy recovers rapidly."

Local county councillors Gordon Stewart and Ken Stow welcome the development at Low Prudhoe.

Prudhoe South representative Gordon Stewart added: "Our recent experiences have demonstrated the importance of being able to shop locally. These new services and facilities will add to the great shopping opportunities that are already available on our high street and elsewhere in the town, all saving people time and money also the environment by reducing the need to travel out of town."
