Temporary national field hospital in Glasgow

Robertson was one of four companies selected by the NHS through the HFS2 framework to deliver construction services for the temporary national field hospital in Glasgow.

  • £43m project delivered over 20 days
  • 24 days from inception to completion
  • 700+ peak workforce
  • 1000+ beds
  • 300 km+ electrical cabling
  • 12 km+ medical gas pipes
  • 23,000 m2 + flooring

Set up to strengthen NHS capacity during the Covid-19 pandemic, our team responded quickly and worked collaboratively with designers and delivery partners.

In just 20 days one of Scotland's largest exhibition centres was transformed into a fully functional hospital facility. There was a clear determination to get the field hospital in operation as quickly as possible but our team's safety was paramount.

We implemented revised Health & Safety Operating Procedures to maintain social distancing which were adhered to throughout. The success of the NHS Louisa Jordan project highlights just one of the many benefits of Direct Award procurement, in this case using accelerated timescales because of the urgent nature of the project.

Thank you

Robertson applauds NHS, key workers and frontline staff and thanks the teams at NHS Louisa Jordan.
