Sector: Residential Completion date: December 2020

The Derby Street development offers high quality and energy efficient affordable housing. The combination of modern flats and detached and terraced homes addresses the shortage of housing in Dundee and is expected to make a significant positive impact locally.

“Once complete, we firmly believe Derby Street will be among the finest affordable housing projects ever seen in Scotland.”

- James Freel, Managing Director, Robertson Partnership Homes

A plan for positive change

The site was previously home to multi-storey flats which were demolished in 2013, making way for significant residential redevelopment opportunities. Robertson is working in partnership with Hillcrest Housing Association and Dundee City Council, whose investment in Hilltown aims to change the imbalance of local service provision and perceptions of the area. The properties – ranging from one and two-bedroom flats to four-bedroom townhouses – are set to improve housing conditions as well as the physical environment and support economic regeneration in the area.

Constructing affordable housing with local subcontractors

Robertson is leading the development project as the main contractor with several local subcontractors appointed to carry out the following works; brick/blockwork, joinery, M&E/sprinklers, decoration, scaffolding, flooring and groundwork packages.

The development has also brought employment to the local area. This is a direct result of sourcing the operations team from the surrounding areas, from Site Management to site labour.

Bringing investment back to Hilltown

There is a hope that the Derby Street development will bring people and investment back to the Hilltown community. As well as significantly improving housing conditions, the Derby Street development is providing multiple apprenticeships and training opportunities, and the chance to showcase the diverse range of skills and professions in the construction sector.

Derby Street was procured through Scape Group’s National Major Works framework (now superseded by Major Works Scotland), part of the Scape National Construction framework. This development is being delivered by Robertson in partnership with Willmott Dixon.
