A shared campus for primary schools and early years facilities

Robertson has constructed a new shared campus in Arbroath for Angus Council. It accommodates Hayshead Primary, St Thomas' RC Primary School and an early years facility.

As part of a wider schools project, Angus Council has moved towards an estate that provides the best quality learning environments for all children and young people, while providing facilities that are available to the community. Robertson also constructed Ladyloan and Muirfield Primary Schools, completed in 2019 and completed Timmergreens and Warddykes Primary Schools in 2016.

Shared education facilities

The new shared campus features a range of modern learning spaces:

  • dedicated flexible teaching spaces to accommodate 650 pupils for Hayshead and St Thomas' Primary Schools, including classrooms, activity spaces and group tutorial rooms;
  • shared accommodation including multi-purpose halls, general purpose rooms and a campus library;
  • an Early Years facility for 100 children, which will be shared by the existing St Thomas' and Hayshead nurseries;
  • a dedicated playgroup area;
  • an inclusive learning area for children with additional support needs including a multi-sensory room;
  • community facilities;
  • 2 grassed sports pitches;
  • external areas to support external learning initiatives;
  • enclosed secure spaces for early years, and children with additional support needs, and;
  • a dedicated drop-off/pick-up facility and separate car parking.

Construction

It is a steel frame building, with an internal floor area of 5376m2, a structural timber external 'envelope' with cladding in facing brick and timber, with an aluminium standing seam roof.

World-class shared facilities

The school provides the very best teaching and learning environment for the people of Arbroath within a realistic budget. As well as meeting future educational needs it is vibrant community asset as well, with many facilities available for the local community to use.
