Robertson earns top-tier recognition for commitment to net zero

Robertson Group has been awarded Champion Status under the Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment (CRCBE), the highest level of recognition available through the scheme. 

The Carbon Reduction Code for the Built Environment is an accreditation framework and pledge for construction and infrastructure organisations to commit to achieving net-zero carbon emissions. The Code forms part of the Construction Leadership Council's Construct Zero initiative and is hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) at the University of Cambridge.

Champion Status recognises organisations that go beyond setting carbon reduction targets and reporting progress. In addition to meeting the Code's Pledger and Signatory requirements, Champions demonstrate industry leadership through activities such as sharing carbon data, supporting supply chain decarbonisation, implementing robust carbon measurement and reduction approaches, and promoting best practice across the built environment.

Robertson has a strong track record of working sustainably. In 2018 it became one of the first UK businesses in the built environment to achieve carbon neutrality and has since built upon that and moved beyond carbon neutral to become 'climate positive'. 

Since then, the business has continued to reduce its environmental impact, driving down whole life carbon through low-carbon site operations and industry-leading expertise in operational energy efficiency, retrofit and embodied carbon reduction.

The business has also transitioned its company car fleet to 100% low-emission vehicles, supporting a wider programme of carbon reduction that has delivered a 73% reduction in emissions intensity over the last decade.

Through its Next Step Zero programme started in 2022, Robertson is taking the knowledge and experience gained through its own carbon reduction journey and sharing it more widely with customers, supply chain partners and project teams, helping to accelerate decarbonisation and deliver lower carbon outcomes across the built environment.
