Robertson Construction hands over £25 million INNSiDE Newcastle
Located on Newcastle’s Quayside the 161- room hotel is set to welcome its first guests early next year
Robertson Construction, North East England, has handed over INNSiDE Newcastle, a contemporary lifestyle hotel, developed by Union Property Development Ltd for Meliá Hotels International, Spain's largest hotel group.
Located on Newcastle's Quayside the 161- room hotel is set to welcome its first guests early next year, and to become the hotel of choice for business and leisure guests alike.
The £25m hotel, which comprises seven storeys, has been built where the former East Wing of the BT building once occupied the site. The team delivered on time to a revised programme which was put in place as a result of the impact of COVID-19, whilst delivering some complex structures within restricted site boundaries due to neighbouring buildings.â¯
Offering dynamic views across the River Tyne, the hotel comprises 161- rooms; five creative meeting spaces; an Open Living Lounge; a well-appointed gym; a restaurant with floor to ceiling windows and a terrace which both offer views across the iconic River Tyne.
Raj Sehgal, director, Union Property Development Ltd, said: "It has been a pleasure to work with the Meliá and Robertson teams throughout the various stages of this project, which breathes new life into a substantial vacant building on the historic quayside.
"We selected a great creative design team and highly capable contractor with a proven track record of delivering major developments across the north of England.
"Union are focused on delivering best in class developments and we are proud to bring this transformational project to our home city".
Garry Fortune, Cluster General Manager UK North for INNSiDE by Meliá commented "We are delighted with the collaborative nature of the work undertaken by Robertson, Union Property and all involved but also the sheer quality of the work done. A big focus for INNSiDE by Meliá is our connection with the City that our Hotels are in and the combined teams have managed to deliver on that and more."
Garry Hope, regional managing director, Roberson Construction, said: "This is our first project for Union Property Development Ltd and it has been a great pleasure to work with them. The entire team has been committed to first class delivery from the outset and we are all delighted with the finished product.
"We were able to continue our operations under our stringent COVID-19 Safe Operating Procedures which safeguarded of our employees, supply chain, customer and other stakeholders, during this unusual time. It also meant that we were able to continue to support the local economy. The views across the River Tyne on offer from this location are second to none, and with the hotel due to open in the coming weeks we look forward to hearing about the reaction to the views from the hotel and restaurant guests."
Throughout the 24-month build programme the project supported over 400 jobs in the North East.
