New Angus schools officially opened by Deputy First Minister John Swinney

Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills John Swinney MSP officially opened not one but two new schools today (29 January) in Angus.

The two new state of the art primary schools in Arbroath, Ladyloan Primary School and Muirfield Primary School were the 99th and 100th new schools to be built as part of the Scotland's £1.8 billion Schools for the Future Programme, which is managed by the Scottish Futures Trust. The schools have been open to pupils for just over a year but Mr Swinney will formally open them today.

Mr Swinney will get a tour of Ladyloan Primary School before visiting Muirfield Primary School where the pupils will celebrate the opening of their school by reading Robert Burns poems they've been practising for Burns Day and singing their school song.

Councillor Derek Wann, Convener of Angus Council's Children and Learning Committee said: "I'm delighted to welcome the Deputy First Minister for Scotland to Arbroath to officially open two of our newest schools, Ladyloan Primary School and Muirfield Primary School. It's great to see how well the children and staff have settled in and I know they are taking full advance of the excellent space and facilities available to them."

Gary Bushnell, Chief Executive, hub East Central Scotland, said: "Our teams worked closely with Angus Council and all stakeholders to deliver two high quality schools that have been designed to meet the specific needs of the communities they will serve for years to come. It is great to see the staff and pupils making the most of their new learning environment and celebrating their new schools with such pride."

Kevin Dickson, Managing Director, Robertson Tayside, said: "We are proud to work in collaboration with Angus Council and hub East Central Scotland to deliver the Arbroath School's Project. This partnership approach continues to deliver schools of the highest quality and I have no doubt that pupils and staff at Ladyloan and Muirfield will benefit hugely from the new facilities. We continue to deliver first class educational facilities across the region, with work ongoing on a new shared campus for Hayshead and St Thomas' Primary Schools in Arbroath and on new Early Years Centres in Carnoustie and Forfar."
