Firefighters make their mark at Whitefield Community Fire Station beam signing

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) have taken part in a ceremonial beam signing to mark the installation of the steel frame at the new Whitefield Community Fire Station.

The new facility, being delivered by Robertson Construction North West, is designed to provide a modern and sustainable base for crews serving the local community. The project is part of GMFRS’s Estates Improvement Programme, which also sees Robertson delivering the new Blackley Community Fire Station.

When complete, the Whitefield station will include upgraded appliance bays, a training tower, and modern welfare facilities alongside improved landscaping and parking. Sustainability features such as air-source heat pumps, solar panels and a green roof will help the building achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Paul Coyle, Commercial Director, Robertson Construction North West, said: “Firefighters are an integral part of the local community, and having some of the personnel who will use the building take part in the ceremony was hugely important. By making their mark on the steel frame, they will forever be associated with the station, and the service it will provide to the local area.”

Work on site is progressing towards completion in autumn 2026, with firefighters continuing to operate from a temporary base nearby until then.
