Investment in education for the community of Menzieshill

Robertson Tayside constructed Tayview Primary School, combining three former education facilities in Dundee.

The project was procured through Scape Group's National Major Works Framework, since superseded by Major Works Scotland, part of Scape's National Construction framework. It was delivered by Robertson in partnership with Willmott Dixon. Scape Group is a public sector owned built environment specialist offering a full suite of national frameworks and innovative design solutions.

"We are very proud to have been part of the delivery of Tayview Primary School - a project which was procured through Scape Group's National Major Works framework - and trust that the children and teachers will enjoy their new surroundings for a long, long time to come."
Kevin Dickson

Renewing outdated facilities

The two-storey, three-stream Tayview Primary School replaced the former Gowriehill and Hillside buildings and also Menzieshill Nursery.

The building was designed for an anticipated school roll of 650 pupils. There is also a nursery school for 70 full time equivalent (FTE) three- to five-year-olds, with a separate nursery area for up to 30 (FTE) two-year-olds.

Community involvement

The children helped choose the name of their new school and assisted with ideas for the logo design.

"It is fantastic that Tayview Primary pupils are being given the opportunity to be so actively involved in the creation of their new school. The opportunity for them to see the construction process first hand is not only an interesting educational experience, but could be just the spark that some of the children need to inspire future careers in construction."
Mark Robinson
chief executive

The project has so far helped to create four new start employment opportunities, five apprenticeships and 13 work experience opportunities for city school pupils during the course of the build.

"It has also offered employment and work experience opportunities to local people - two exemplary ways in which the construction industry can help rectify the ongoing skills crisis."
Councillor Stewart Hunter
convener of the City Council's Children and Families Education committee

Tayview will provide modern, spacious surroundings for pupils and staff to thrive in their education.

"When this latest new school is completed pupils, parents and staff will see a huge improvement in the facilities and educational environment."
Councillor Stewart Hunter
convener of the City Council's Children and Families Education committee
