Major Refurbishment and Extension Works
Monument Mall is a block located in the heart of Newcastle next to Grey’s Monument and Monument Metro Station. The proposed works of this project was to refurbish the existing Sports Direct unit, the vacant upper floors and to create an additional fourth floor as a food and beverage roof terrace.
Currently Monument Mall is home to flagship stores for both TK Maxx and Reiss, as well as high street retailers including The White Company, Kiehls and Fat Face and sought-after designer brands such as Michael Kors and Hugo Boss.

The existing building is split into two separate structures, known as the corner building and the main mall. The corner building was originally built around 1920s which housed Sports Direct for many years, which is independent to the rest of the building.
Major Brands Signal a New Chapter for the Mall
Major refurbishment works began with leisure operator Lane7 already moved into the basement of the former Sports Direct store. Lloyd's bank has also relocated to the mall, taking over the first floors, providing more modern, accessible space for their colleagues and customers.
Sustainability by Design
The designs incorporate a variety of sustainability measures, including:
- The use of heat pumps throughout, offering the opportunity to recycle waste heat.
- Re-use of the existing structure.
- Potential to use more sustainable materials such as timber to reduce the embodied carbon of the new structure.
