Robertson supports installation of memorial artwork honouring organ donors at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

Robertson Construction Eastern has supported the installation of a new memorial artwork at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Emergency Department, recognising the generosity of organ donors and their families.

Robertson has partnered with NHS Grampian for more than a decade, delivering a broad programme of estate improvements. At Aberdeen Royal Infirmary this has included a major refurbishment programme and the construction of a 10-storey Emergency Care Centre. The company has also refurbished the Blair Unit at Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen and continues to deliver projects across the health board’s estate through the long-running Measured Term Contract.

This latest contribution continues that relationship, with Robertson working with the artist over several days to put the intricate artwork in place. As well as carrying out decoration works ahead of the installation, Robertson provided access equipment and joiners to secure the multipart glass piece to the wall, delivered at no cost as part of its community benefit commitment.

The artwork, The Ripple Effect, was commissioned by the NHS Grampian Organ and Tissue Donation Committee and created in collaboration with local artist Shelagh Swanson. Donor families and young people from across the region contributed designs and stories, resulting in a series of glass ‘pebbles’ symbolising the ripples of hope created by organ donation.

Gordon Milne, Regional Managing Director, Robertson Construction Eastern, said: “This is an incredibly moving project that gives a permanent place of remembrance to families and a powerful message about the impact of organ donation. We were privileged to support NHS Grampian with some of the practical works needed to install the artwork.”

The memorial now forms a focal point in the Emergency Department foyer at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, acknowledging the generosity of donors and their families.
