Robertson projects recognised among the best

Last month, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) recognised three Robertson projects as representing the very best of the built and natural environment across the UK at its regional awards ceremonies.

At the Scotland ceremony, the comprehensive refurbishment of BlackRock’s office won the Commercial Development category, while the new-build MacMillan Square Community Hub for City of Edinburgh Council received the Community Benefit award.

BlackRock, the world's largest asset management firm, relocated its Edinburgh office to a new state-of-the-art facility following a £48m transformation completed by Robertson Construction Central East last year. The New Town office underwent a renovation to create Grade A office space for 1,500 employees, complete with innovative, high-quality facilities.

MacMillan Square Community Hub brings together a library, 185-place early learning centre and expanded arts facilities under one roof, alongside six affordable homes and a social enterprise café. Community benefits were generated through an £8.2m spend with a local supply chain, 500 hours of volunteering, 73 local people employed on the project, and 800 apprenticeship weeks hosted.

In England, the transformation of the Grade II listed Redcar Central Station for Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council was Highly Commended in the Heritage category at the Yorkshire & Humber ceremony.

Robertson Construction North East restored the Victorian station to its former glory while repurposing its derelict engine shed into a dynamic new space. Roofing works involved preserving and strengthening its original timber trusses and installing a new ‘birdcage’ structure along with rooflights to flood the space with natural light. Traditional materials such as slate and brick were retained where possible to maintain its historic aesthetic. The station now provides essential rail facilities while serving as a vibrant retail and leisure hub, featuring shops, bars, restaurants, flexible workspaces and community spaces.

Recognition across such diverse categories reflects the dedication and collaboration of our teams and partners and the high-quality projects and services we deliver for our customers.

Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Robertson Group, said: “I’m immensely proud of the work that our teams carry out every day, and to have this recognition from RICS reinforces the calibre at Team Robertson. We had a number of projects shortlisted across the regions and I congratulate, not only the winners, but all those who were recognised through inclusion in these awards.”

The two winning projects will now go on to represent Scotland at the RICS UK Grand Final in October.
