Robertson Construction Tayside funding helps Dundee pupils get into sport

Following the completion of the new Greenfield Academy, which opened to pupils in August, Robertson Construction Tayside is continuing its support for the school by funding new sportswear that will help hundreds of young people take part in activities.

The school forms part of the wider Drumgeith Community Campus, which was delivered by Robertson on behalf of Dundee City Council.

As part of its commitment to creating positive community impact beyond construction, Robertson has provided 300 sports t-shirts for S1 and S2 pupils alongside new sets of football kits for the school’s boys and girls teams.

Greenfield Academy has launched a programme to encourage active lifestyles, offering all S1 and S2 pupils free, weekly professional sports coaching including rugby, basketball, netball, dance, football and racquet sports. Robertson has helped remove barriers to participation, ensuring every pupil can take part.

The football kits, which will be worn by the school’s teams in local competitions, carry the Robertson logo on the front. The back features the logo of Dundee Bairns, a local children’s charity and one of Robertson Construction Tayside’s chosen charity partners this year.

Kevin Dickson, Regional Managing Director, Robertson Construction Tayside, said: “Having delivered the new Greenfield Academy, we are pleased to continue our support for the school by helping pupils access sport and physical activity. By removing some of the financial barriers, we hope every pupil feels able to take part, develop new skills and feel a real sense of belonging within their school community. Initiatives like this show how we can bring added value to the projects we deliver and make a difference that goes beyond the construction itself.”

Children, Families and Communities Convener Stewart Hunter said: “We know there are huge benefits to being more active and having a positive experience of sports from a young age.

“That is why the new Academy of Sport is great as it provides free access to sports kits and weekly professional coaching sessions for hundreds of S1 and S2 pupils across a wide range of activities, including football, netball, and martial arts.

“This initiative will make a huge difference in supporting our young people to be active and feel part of the school community, and I want to thank Robertson for sponsoring and providing the brand-new kits and working with Dundee Bairns as part of this.”

Genna Millar, Executive Director, Dundee Bairns, said: "Dundee Bairns is grateful to be included in the sponsorship of Greenfield Academy football strips.  It is evident of our deepening charitable relationship with Robertson Construction and a great opportunity to showcase our presence at the new school, at which we have recently rolled out our new Wellbeing project. It’s a great example of community partnership in action.”
