Raymond More, Business Development Director, Robertson Construction Northern was the recipient of the 'Open Award' at the annual Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) awards held in Glasgow on Friday 14 October.

Raymond was selected as the winner by the CIOB committee for his outstanding contribution to, and on behalf of, CIOB Scotland.

Raymond completed a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying at Robert Gordon's shortly after leaving high school. He had his first taste of working with Robertson during a year in industry, when he completed his work placement at Robertson Northern. After graduating and spending two years with a surveying practice, Raymond returned to Robertson as a project surveyor in 1989 – a move which marked the start of his 33-year career to date with Robertson.

Alongside his work with Robertson, Raymond is a fellow of both the CIOB and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

Raymond commented: "When I joined the CIOB I was inspired by some of the people that I met, I admired them then and still regard them today with the greatest of respect. They spent their time sharing their experience and knowledge and encouraging the next generation. That impact has stood me well throughout my career and while I am thrilled to receive this honour today, my contribution has never been about recognition, it's about being a support for others, an advocate for our industry and part of a team."

"I remain as enthusiastic about the future of construction as when I started work with Robertson, and am proud of the difference our work in the built environment is making to the communities we work in. I am delighted to receive this award and it is an absolute honour to be the recipient."

Elliot Robertson, Chief Executive Officer, Robertson Group, said: "The external recognition from the respected industry body, CIOB, illustrates not only Raymond's passion for construction but the significant contribution that he has made to the wider industry.

"Raymond has been an integral part of our team for over three decades and has been instrumental in positively developing the Robertson Northern business, as well as being a key mentor. Leading by example, his infectious ability to motivate and lift others moral makes him a great leader and team member; we are proud to have him as part of Team Robertson."

Lynne McKay, CIOB Regional Manager – Scotland, said: "CIOB in Scotland is delighted to present Raymond More FCIOB with our Open Award 2022.  This award represents our gratitude to Raymond for his past and continued support to the Institute and the wider industry.  He is a truly inspirational individual."

Sharon Barrie, Chair of the CIOB Highland and Islands Hub, commented: "Raymond has been an active member of the CIOB Highlands and Islands committee for a number of years, is a former Chair and is currently the CIOB representative on the CPDC committee. During his time as a CIOB committee member he has supported CIOB members by assisting to organise quality CPD events and major seminars. He is a great mentor to many, has a wealth of experience to share and is always willing to help."

The Open Award is reserved for an active contributor to the CIOB in Scotland, who is both associated and respected within the construction industry and deemed to have made a significant contribution to the Institute.

Raymond's previous awards include: the James Atwood Quaich for Contribution to CPD in the Highlands from Inverness College UHI, and the Industry Excellence Award from the annual Highland Construction and Property Dinner.
