Modern facilities for the Highland and Islands community

Robertson Construction Northern is constructing a new ferry terminal building in Uig on the Isle of Skye, with completion set for summer 2025.

The building consists of a steel portal frame, composite panels for external walls and roofing, finished with a steel standing seam. The internal layout is formed with metal stud partitions. The project features powered external sliding doors, patent glazing and internal fixtures, fittings, and furnishings. The building utilises air source heat pumps, a wet heating system, photovoltaic panels on the roof and includes IT infrastructure, and security installations.

External Works: The construction of a storage building, including three walk-in storage units. Siteworks around the terminal building include landscaping and the installation of various site furnishing, including seating, entrance screens, steps, bollards, a cycle shelter, a bus shelter, a plant compound, tree pits, and planters. Together with a new stone entrance wall.

The facility is part of a wider scheme at Uig Harbour and the new building is located on reclaimed land in front of the existing ticket office.

Funding

The Uig redevelopment is a £3.5m project jointly funded by Transport Scotland and The Highland Council. The works have been designed by the Highland Council’s Property Team.

“The Uig redevelopment project is progressing well, and I’m sure a new modern ferry terminal will be welcomed by everyone using the facilities.

“We wish the awarded contractor – Robertson every success with the build and look forward to receiving regular project updates. A Highland based contractor successfully being awarded the contract is beneficial to the circular economy of the Highlands and will offer opportunity for local employment. This in-line with our Community Wealth Building policy.”
