The heart of Dundee’s Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc

The Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc launched its flagship £5m Innovation Hub and Café in Dundee in November 2023, constructed by Robertson. This world-class facility features open-plan event and showcase spaces, co-working areas, meeting rooms and design labs. The joint venture between Michelin, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise aims to foster growth and diversity in Scotland's economy while tackling the global climate crisis.

A design with carbon footprint in mind

With sustainability being a top priority, the hub was built using Glulam (glued laminated timber) and CLT (cross-laminated timber) structure used in place of conventional steel construction, saving an estimated 715 tonnes of carbon dioxide. The use of wood as the principal building material locks away the carbon it contains for the lifetime of the building. We also diverted 99.95% of site waste away from landfills.

Innovation initiatives and community impact

In addition to the 1,200 square meter physical development, MSIP implements a related innovation activity program and offers access to support programs.

The project was carried out primarily by a local supply chain, which has created 8 new jobs, supported 24 apprenticeships, and hosted 35 work placements.

MSIP is committed to collaborating with industry, academia, government and the local community to transform Dundee into a leading hub for innovation, advancing emerging technologies for a greener future.

Collaborating with Procurement Hub to ensure maximum value

Collaborating with the Procurement Hub Major Projects framework, MSIP, and the consultant team, Robertson ensured that every phase of the MSIP development project was designed to maximize value for money.

The Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc (MSIP) partnership was created in response to the closure of Michelin’s Dundee site in June 2020. The construction of the Innovation Parc provides an opportunity to secure jobs and ensure the long-term future of the site. Creating a development that addresses the future needs of both Scotland and the world.

“Throughout the transformation of the parc, the construction element of the project has been undertaken by a predominantly local supply chain and has generated 8 new starts in employment, supported 24 apprenticeships and hosted 35 work placements. There have been significant environmental benefits too with 99.95% of waste being diverted from landfill.”
“We wish MSIP every continued success as it now secures tenants for the parc who will benefit from the high-quality environments that have been created.”
