Affordable, sustainable and accessible housing

Fife Council’s affordable housebuilding programme continued with the construction of a further 63 new affordable and energy efficient homes on the former site of the Kennoway primary school.

This development is part of the Fife Council's housing building programme, and the second of seven projects that Robertson are contracted to deliver for the council supporting the ambitious delivery of new homes across the region.

Affordable places to live for the long term

Robertson is supporting Fife Council in the drive to address the vitally important need for social and affordable housing. These properties are a great example of quality council-led development that will both be affordable to rent and live in for residents for many years to come.

Phase 1 of the development in Kennoway comprised 43 homes. Following the successful completion of these, we agreed with Fife Council to deliver an additional 20 homes.

Sustainable construction to achieve low running costs

Robertson delivered the highly energy efficient designs, which, alongside our other developments for Fife Council, will help to achieve the ambitious goal of boosting the number of quality houses in their stock.

Sprinkler systems are standard throughout, recognising both Fife and the Scottish Government's focus on  safety in new builds. A communal sprinkler tank serves all properties.

A host of energy efficiency features woven in to the build will keep running costs low for the residents, underlining the Council's commitment to the environment and the wellbeing of its communities.

Long-lasting social impact

Working in the heart of the community, we recognise the important part we play to create and generate social impact, helping to leave a legacy for years to come. After Phase 1, a host of benefits to the local community were delivered, with more to come during Phase 2:

  • 1 new job created,
  • 272 local people (FTE) employed on the contract,
  • 522 apprenticeship weeks,
  • 11 work placement weeks,
  • £1.3m of project value spent locally, with large businesses,
  • £7.9m of project value spent locally, with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),
  • Local charities supported: Brag Enterprises & Clear Fife,
  • Surplus materials donated to local high schools,
  • Pupils tried out practical trade skills at a special work area on the site, including bricklaying, roofing, insulation and woodwork.
