As a business we have come a long way in the last fifty years; from a joinery firm in Elgin to being one of the largest family-owned construction, infrastructure and support services business in the UK.

Our story

1966 was a memorable year for a young joiner from Elgin; it was the year Bill Robertson set up his family business.

From the beginning, Bill took a considered approach to his joinery and his business; he was patient, responsible, always careful to understand the details, to put customers first, and to create the best possible outcomes.

Fast forward a few decades and it was clear that Bill’s intuition extended to the entrepreneurial side of the business too. The family ethos still permeated everything, but Robertson was also looking to the future, building a trusted reputation for successful delivery that meant it could diversify, growing in a sustainable way that enabled the right investments at the right time.

At the heart of every new venture was the insistence on getting the basics absolutely right. Common sense, attention to detail, outstanding quality, taking pride in our work, and doing a job that will stand the test of time. Not just completing a project successfully, but using our expertise to really transform places, taking on every task with the sense that there can be greater purpose to all we do.

At Robertson, we think these principles are fundamental to our future. Now, over fifty years later and a thoroughly modern business, we independently invest, develop, construct and maintain across the UK, working for a wide range of public and private sector customers – a direct consequence of doing business the open, decent way.

People are at the heart of everything we do and achieve as a group and as a partner to our customers. That’s why safety is paramount and nothing is more important than ensuring that everyone goes home safely at the end of every day. It’s why we emphasise the importance of passing on skills to the next generation, the importance in our communities of the livelihoods we support, and the determination to create an assured, sustainable future for those that come after.
