Robertson Construction North East to deliver NHS Trust’s capital programme

Robertson has been appointed to carry out a programme of capital projects over a three-year period, predominantly at the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary sites. Projects are envisaged to include theatre and ward refurbishment programmes, clinical improvements, public facing refurbishments and critical infrastructure/backlog maintenance upgrades. 

This successful framework appointment has presented a platform to build and strengthen existing relationships that have been established in the delivery of multiple capital schemes over recent years, most notably the award-winning Day Treatment Centre at the Freeman Hospital site.

Paul Inglis, Operations Director, Robertson Construction North East added: “We have great experience of working in a live healthcare environment and will work closely with the Trust to minimise disruption to its services and ensure the ongoing safety of patients, visitors and staff.”

Helen Sturdy, National Head of Construction and ProCure23 framework, NHS England said: “It’s great to see such enthusiasm expressed in discussion with the Trust and Robertson about how ProCure23 can support the successful delivery of projects to improve patient care and experience. Supporting the framework’s focus on social value to support the UK Government’s strategic objectives, there is a planned programme of social value initiatives that will bring benefits socially, economically and environmentally.

ProCure23 is NHS England’s route to market for the provision of design and construction services to capital projects within healthcare. NHS England collaborated with Crown Commercial Service to deliver ProCure23 as part of the CWAS2 procurement framework to ensure that NHS capital works adopt the principles of the government’s Construction Playbook, modern construction delivery and a focus on sustainability and social value.
