A high-quality new hotel in Alnwick for Northumberland Estates

The welcoming Hog’s Head Inn is set within extensive landscaped grounds, with substantial parking for hotel and restaurant guests. The hotel construction and fit-out were completed two weeks ahead of schedule and within budget.

Making a design statement

Greensfield Moor Developments acquired a site from Northumberland Estates to build a hotel and bar/restaurant. Estates Manager Jim Jeffrey recommended to the developer that they should approach Robertson to manage the design team, obtain the necessary planning approval, and subsequently carry out the construction. This recommendation was based on his positive experience of Robertson, as we have completed a number of successful Design & Build projects on behalf of Northumberland Estates.

The developer and interior designer both brought creative ideas to the table, and the finished product was very much a team effort, making sure that best value for money was achieved. In cases where certain materials were asked for but could not be obtained within the budget, we went to great lengths to source materials that provided the same appearance - and, importantly, performance - but still stayed within the budget's limits. Our team also went out of their way to acquire fixtures and fittings from local suppliers. As a result, the quality of the internal finishes is to AA 4 Star Inn standard.

"To have a building with the calibre of finishes and facilities of The Hog's Head Inn is a real coup for Alnwick and a credit to Robertson.
Keith Liddell of Greensfield Moor Developments

No half measures

The Duke of Northumberland opened the pub by pulling the first pint. Raising a toast to the completion of the project, he said:
