Supporting the regeneration of Blackpool's Talbot Gateway with a four-star Holiday Inn

Robertson has completed the construction of a new hotel in Blackpool, providing quality town centre accommodation for hundreds of visitors and creating a stronger local economy with more jobs.

Located next to Blackpool North Railway Station and a short walk from the town’s main attractions, the new Holiday Inn hotel forms an important part of the £100 million regeneration of Blackpool town centre.

The project began with the demolition of the former Wilko’s retail store to make way for the five-storey hotel development and car park.

The new Holiday Inn’s lower ground floor accommodates a hotel gym, plant rooms, back of house, utility supply intake positions and storage, together with public conveniences and retail units facing the new tram terminus.

The ground floor includes the main entrance foyer and reception, management offices, restaurant, bar, meeting rooms, and back of house facilities, while the four upper floors comprise of the 144 ensuite hotel rooms, housekeeping/linen room and consumables stores and comms rooms

Supporting the Community

Being socially responsible in all that we do is crucial to the success we’ve achieved to date, and to the continued sustainability of our business.

We supported Blackpool-based charity Counselling in the Community after they issued an urgent appeal for building support and advice as their new premises were in such poor condition.

The Counselling in the Community team had no renovation experience and couldn’t afford to pay professionals. Robertson came forward as a main contractor and offered support.

We provided over 50 free hours of Robertson staff time and materials to help them which had an invaluable impact on the local community. In helping facilitate the hub opening, more Blackpool residents had the support available that they may not have had otherwise.

In return, the founder of Counselling in the Community, Stuart Hutton-Brown, visited our sites to deliver mental health awareness talks to our workforce.

In addition to this very worthwhile support, we worked with local colleges and schools on different educational projects.

We delivered a two-week virtual work programme with construction students at Blackpool and The Fylde College. Based on a real-life Robertson project 'Spanish City', the virtual work experience introduced students to the concept of design, measure and cost as well as developing a corporate image.

We also held a school visit to Baines School, hosting employability skills sessions with Educational Diversity students, and a Climate Emergency design competition with Lotus School.

"It's a proud moment for everyone involved at Talbot Gateway, as we take the next step on the journey to transform and re-energise the town centre, by delivering a new landmark hotel and high-quality brand to strengthen the hotel offering in the town."

Regenerating Talbot Gateway

The new Holiday Inn hotel is part of a wider regeneration project for Blackpool including retail units and improved public transport links, with a new tram terminal, all within the Talbot Gateway central business district.

The building is part of the larger Talbot Gateway Development with the hotel forming the centre point and link to the new tramway station and Blackpool North Train Station.

The hotel brings four-star accommodation to the area, accommodating hundreds of visitors and creating 50 full-time jobs.
