Refurbishment and extension for a global company
Robertson has delivered a new manufacturing facility in Livingston for global packaging and cardboard specialists SAICA, supporting their centralisation and growth plans.
The project has seen a former retail distribution warehouse refurbished and extended, with highly automated efficient production systems installed. These take raw materials and transform them into sustainable products for SAICA's customers throughout the UK.

Overcoming challenges to keep on track
In delivering this project we stepped up to face several challenges.
Working through 2021, we met the challenge of materials shortages alongside the restrictions of COVID-19. Our team worked tirelessly and flexibly to ensure we could meet the planned programme and maintain the critical scheduling of materials, plant and personnel.
Working next to the main railway line from Edinburgh to Glasgow, meant we had to work extensively with Network Rail to co-ordinate crane lifts next to the track boundary.
Designed and built to precise requirements
The final storage and call-off area for SAICA's products was to be designed and constructed to suit the requirements of the new machinery already on order, with complex foundations for each one. Working with SAICA and a specialist installer, Robertson reviewed the process and aligned all working practices to ensure this specification could be met within UK Building Regulations and health and safety requirements.
An exceptional focus on safety
The project was rated 'exceptional' for safety by the Considerate Constructors Scheme, due to the industry-leading procedures in place. Key to these include protected pedestrian walkways that segregate operatives from risk as they move about the site. A range of campaigns, presentations and briefings ensure that our Home Safe principles are carried out in practice.
