A brand new £4.95m community, early learning and childcare centre in Auchinairn, Glasgow

Built on the site of the former Auchinairn Primary School, the new £4.95m facility provides a range of facilities including a nursery, community hall, cafe, meeting rooms and play area.

The facility offers a wide collection of facilities to the area, with the council working closely with the local community to tailor this facility to meet the needs of people living in Auchinairn.

The Auchinairn Community Facility followed Robertson's successful completion of the Huntershill Sports Hub which opened its doors in September 2017 – both of which were delivered under Scape Group's National Major Works framework. Designed to encourage sporting activity, the hub includes an all-weather 3G sports pitch, a sports pavilion building, an athletics track and three year-round tennis courts.

In partnership with Robertson we have been able to build a centre that meets the needs of the local communities. They helped us consult with residents, community groups and the nursery to ensure the building provided a modern facility which would become a central part of community life.
It is already very busy with local groups using its hall and meeting spaces every night of the week, the cafe is up and running and the children in the nursery are loving exploring their new indoor and outdoor learning and play areas.

Constructing facilities for local residents

The work at Auchinairn and Huntershill was procured through Scape Group's National Major Works framework, (now superseded by Major Works Scotland), which is part of the Scape National Construction framework. It was delivered by Robertson in partnership with Willmott Dixon.

The state-of-the-art facilities provide local residents with easy access to a number of hugely valuable services and activities they didn't have access to before. Using Scape National Major Works framework gives back to the community through the use of local suppliers, by creating new jobs and giving training opportunities for local people.

The centre part of the council's commitment to the Auchinairn Place Initiative – will be a new focal point for community life. It is an investment which aims to reduce inequality and give the people and groups of Auchinairn a facility from which to operate and grow.
