Expanding premises to grow a business

Transforming a former Boots distribution warehouse into a new car retail space and workshops on a four-acre site.

We've invested in this new site so that we can expand as a business – the brand new premises will allow us to feature more vehicles in the showroom, which will ensure the experience for our customers is much more rewarding.

Expanding a business

Car dealer Inchcape was looking to create a new showroom that offered a comfortable environment for customers that was fitted out in keeping with the latest Volkswagen corporate standards. The new site would also establish Volkswagen as a key employer in the local area.

Reusing existing steel frame

For this design and build project, we reused the existing steel frame. We began by demolishing existing offices and part of the warehouse unit and then extending the building, re-cladding and fitting new curtain walling. The building was fitted out to form a new showroom, along with a workshop and a body-shop repair centre for brands such as VW, Audi, Mercedes Benz and Land Rover. The car park to the rear of the building was extended with a new access road from Sealand Road, which enabled more than 100 used cars to be displayed.

A regional retail centre

Inchcape relocated their existing dealership to the new, larger site, allowing them to have 17 VW models on display. The service workshop has increased its capacity to 23 bays including two MOT test lanes.
