Bringing improved facilities and affordable housing to Laurieston

Working with Glasgow City Council and New Gorbals Housing Association, Urban Union delivered an ambitious regeneration project in the heart of the city, creating new retail and commerical space and a mix of housing, including homes for social rent, mid-market rent, affordable apartments and private homes for sale.

Laurieston Living was Urban Union's first development and went from strength to strength as the phases progressed. The project to transform Laurieston, located in the Gorbals – historically regarded as one of the most deprived areas in Glasgow – supported community aspirations and brought the physical improvements, housing and facilities to stimulate social and economic growth.

Community focus

  • Laurieston's residents had a key voice throughout all stages of the regeneration process.
  • Training, job and supply chain opportunities targeted locally.
  • Helping social enterprises and local businesses benefit from the project.
  • Public artworks, tree planting and sculptures commissioned as part of a five-year arts project.
Partnership working in its truest sense has been key to the success of this project so far, both between the partners of Transforming Communities: Glasgow and most importantly, with the local residents and our delivery partners New Gorbals Housing Association and Urban Union.
Bailie Liz Cameron
Chairwoman of Transforming Communities: Glasgow and Glasgow City Council's executive member for Business and the Economy
