Searching for Rising Stars of Green Industry

The search is on to find the rising stars of green industry and offer them a once-in-a-lifetime chance to set up home in one of the most prestigious business developments in the region.

South Tyneside Council has launched a competition to offer a year's free accommodation in the exciting One Trinity Green development, together with a cash prize of £5,000 and professional support.

Two companies – one existing and one start-up – will win units at the development, which will provide managed workspace and business support for new and growing companies in the low carbon and environmental sectors.

Announcing the competition, Councillor Ed Malcolm Lead Member Resources and Innovation at South Tyneside Council said: “These are excellent prizes for two companies and will bring new jobs and opportunities to the Borough.

“One Trinity Green is a superb development which will attract new businesses operating within the low carbon and environmental industries sectors. It will encourage people from all over the region to start their businesses here in South Tyneside and once established these companies will receive all the support they need to grow and evolve – bringing jobs and creating exciting employment opportunities for local residents.”

One Trinity Green in South Shields is a three-storey building incorporating state-of-the-art environmental energy systems.  It is due to open in June offering 41 flexible office, workshop and hybrid units with extensive support services in 2,200 square metres of high quality accommodation.

The building will be one of only a handful in the country to meet the highest environmental standard of BREEAM ‘Outstanding.’ rating by the Building Research Establishment for its sustainable design.

South Tyneside Council is developing the project in partnership with environmental organisation, Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle. The building has been designed by North East based company +3 Architecture. Robertson North East began construction at the former Circatex site at Eldon Street, South Shields, in Spring last year and the building is scheduled for completion in May.

The project is benefitting from £2,466,500 of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), managed by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

One Trinity Green is within the Trinity South neighbourhood of South Shields Riverside regeneration area and the Council is working in partnership with Homes & Communities Agency to secure a private sector developer to develop up to 400 new family homes.

Councillor Ed Malcolm added: “This development will serve as a focal point in the overall plan for the regeneration of the area and complement other nearby developments such as the carbon negative housing scheme at Reed Street, proposed housing at Trinity South and the multi-million pound BT business centre and park on Harton Quay.

“These developments show that the Council is working hard to bring more investment and jobs to South Tyneside and making the area a great place for people to live, work, visit and do business."

Regional Managing Director for Robertson Andy McLeod, said: “Obtaining a BREEAM outstanding certificate is a remarkable achievement. One Trinity Green is only the tenth building in the country to have achieved this prestigious rating from the Building Research Establishment for its eco-friendly design.

This is a truly exciting development which is embracing the opportunities of the new low carbon era.

This is testament to Robertson and their  commitment to achieving high standards across all sectors of its business and we are thrilled to see our hard work being rewarded yet again.”
