Carlogie Primary of Forfar/Carnoustie Schools PPP Wins Access Award

THE Angus Access Panel's Rod McFarlane Award has been presented to Carlogie Primary School in Carnoustie.  Angus Provost Ruth Leslie Melville was at the school to present the award.

Carlogie Primary was developed by Robertson Eastern as part of Robertson Capital Projects' recently completed seven school £50m Forfar/Carnoustie Schools PPP Project for Angus Council.

Carlogie Primary School was completely re-modelled internally to provide additional facilities for pupils with support needs and those with a hearing loss.

Carlogie caters for pupils with specific impairments, losses or mobility issues, therefore design emphasis was placed on accessibility, particularly with toilets, visual identification and door entrance requirements. It remains a single-storey, two-stream primary school with a capacity of 444 primary pupils with up to 80 pre-school places.

Each year the Rod McFarlane award is presented to the place in Angus that demonstrates the best examples of positive effort being made to encourage the inclusion of disabled people.

Ten buildings were nominated for this year's award and all were inspected.
The panel revealed that this year had presented an "extremely difficult" decision for the judges, since they were all of such a high standard.

The award is named after Rod McFarlane, who died in 1994 and who was a great campaigner for disabled people through his work as a regional councillor, a director of Disability Scotland, the chairman of Forfar and District Access for the Disabled Trust and the first chairman of the Angus Access Panel.
