1960 Bill Robertson leaves school aged 15, starts a joinery apprenticeship with his father
1966 Following the death of his father, Robertson starts up a joinery business in his hometown, Elgin, aged 21
1968 The company undertakes multi-trades contracts in order to develop an all trades company
1968 First commercial development - the construction of 2 shops in Kingmills, Elgin
1969 Company builds its first house for sale
1973 First significant private housing development - 26 houses near Elgin
1974 Company grows in housing and major contracting activity
1975 First major design and build project - 50 houses for Portsoy Town Council
1976 Robertson of Elgin become a Limited Company
1976 - 1981 Company develops new build and refurbishment experience throughout North East
1981 Major contract awarded to the company for Local Authority refurbishment of social housing throughout North East Scotland
1982 Commenced major house building activity throughout Elgin
1983 Acquisition of Elgin Precast
1984 The company forms 4 distinct divisions - Construction, Timber Products, Residential and Precast
1986 Elgin Timber Products begins trading
1987 Bill Robertson becomes the President of the Scottish Builders Employers Federation, now Scottish Building
1989 Acquisition of Doric Construction, Aberdeen. The company trades in similar markets to its new owners - Doric is twice the size of Robertson and trades in similar markets
1992 The expansion of Dr. Gray's hospital in Elgin is the company's first major healthcare project
1992 The Conservative government launch PFI
1992 Named as fastest growing company in Scotland
1996 Robertson of Elgin are re-branded as Robertson Group (Scotland) Ltd
1996 Robertson Timber Products supply and erect 2 timber frame kits in Japan
1996 Robertson Group (Scotland) pursue first PFI/PPP opportunity
1996 Bill Robertson begins re-structuring of Robertson Group (Scotland) as a result of the substantial loss of work from the public sector. But also with the intention of creating greater geographical coverage and increasing value
1997 £26m PFI contract secured for MoD housing at RAF Lossiemouth. The joint venture consortium consists of: Robertson Group (Scotland) Ltd, Morrison & RBS
1998 New Craigs Hospital, Inverness PFI contract won, this marks the first 100% PFI project for Robertson
1998 Robertson Facilities Management formed to provide facilities services for PFI contracts
1999 First significant project in England - construction of 122 bed Travelodge in Newcastle
1999 Robertson Commercial Developments become known as Robertson Property
2000 Gateshead is the location chosen for the first Robertson office in England
2000 Relocation of Robertson Residential from Elgin to the Central Belt
2001 Robertson Timberkit win their largest ever timber frame contract - a £1m holiday homes resort in Cornwall
2002 Robertson Capital Projects created - the team are dedicated to PFI/PPP investments
2002 Brand new custom built timber frame factory opens in Seaham, County Durham - allowing Robertson Timberkit greater access to a national market
2003 Robertson Group (Scotland) re-branded as Robertson Group
2003 Separate business strategy is created
2003 Robertson construction companies become known as Robertson Northern, Robertson Eastern, Robertson Central and Robertson North East
2003 Robertson Timber Products become known as Robertson Timberkit
2004 Robertson Residential become known as Robertson Homes
2004 Newcastle & North Tyneside LIFT Project is secured - contract value £45m
2005 Robertson Tayside created
2006 Robertson Property awarded the highest ever sustainability BREAMM score of 84% for the SNH headquarters in Inverness
2006 Robertson Homes de-merges from Robertson Group. The Group now consists of 9 separate businesses operating in 5 market sectors. The Group's individual businesses operate 5 regionally based construction companies, a property development company, a timber frame manufacturing business, a facilities management company and a business dedicated to PFI/PPP investments.
2006 Robertson Capital Projects in partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine secure the £100m Dundee Schools project. The schools will be built by Robertson Construction Tayside and maintained by Robertson FM
2007 Record Turnover of £194m (up 22% on previous year) and record pre-tax profits of £14.1m (up 93% on previous year) announced
2007 Robertson Capital Projects (RCP) reaches financial close on the £200million Newcastle Building Schools for the Future project. The Aura Learning Communities consortium consists of RCP, Robertson FM, Sir Robert McAlpine and Parsons Brinkerhoff.
